Godzilla (2014) Movie Review

AHHH IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK!!

Hello everyone, wow this is my first post since Straight Outta Compton in August, so I thought I would return with a bang, and what other bang than Godzilla (2014).

For those who don't know me, I grew up with every single film in the Godzilla franchise. I remember the first Godzilla film I saw was the original 1954 Gojira (thanks dad) and I fell in love.

Now, I saw this film in the movie theatre, and I was a tad underwhelmed with Godzilla.

Now, I know your probably asking 'why? the movie was so cool' well ok lets look at the cast first.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson- Ford Brody
Ken Wantanabe- Dr. Ishiro Serizawa
Bryan Cranston- Joe Brody
Elizabeth Olsen- Elle Brody

ok, this is a good cast, wonderful talent, but why is Godzilla just good and not great?

lets look at the crew

Director
Gareth Edwards

Writer(s)
Max Borenstein
Dave Callaham

Gareth Edwards is the director and he does an amazing job, but my main concern for Godzilla is the writers, if you looked at their IMDb pages specifically at Dave Callaham's page. Callaham was behind Doom and The Expendables

I know that it sounds like I'm bitching and I am, because I'm wondering if Callaham and Borenstein ever did research or watched a previous Godzilla film. Linked below is an entire page based on Godzilla's power's and abilities. Also, for those thinking 'Godzilla can't survive a nuclear blast' watch the final battle in Godzilla: Final Wars

I think that what this movie is missing out most on is fan service. Not that this movie didn't have it, it did, three words, NUCLEAR FIRE BREATH

So, the best scene's since this is a more realistic take on the character of Godzilla is the first fifteen minutes and the last half hour with Godzilla kicking all sorts of ass.

Now, lets talk about the good in the movie. The CGI Godzilla and MUTO's were awesome. When they were throwing down, I was cheering in my seat, I felt like I was a little kid again.

I totally agree, but have a more well known monster fight Godzilla
So, the TLDR version: Acting was awesome, directing was awesome, writing was lacking with the past lore of Godzilla, other than that, a interesting take on Godzilla and can't wait for a sequel.
