Hardcore Henry Movie Review

Hardcore Henry

Rated R (non-stop bloody brutal violence and mayhem, language throughout, sexual content/nudity, and drug use)

Starring:

Sharlto Copley as Jimmy
Danila Kozlovsky as Akan
Haley Bennett as Estelle
Tim Roth as Henry's Father

IMDb synopsis: A first-person action film from the eyes of Henry, who's resurrected from death with no memory. He must discover his identity and save his wife from a warlord with a plan to bio-engineer soldiers.

My rating: 7/10

Word of advice, don't eat anything while watching, or before you see this movie. It's not a fun time.

I. The Characters

Now, I know what you're probably thinking, 'it's not supposed to have good character development, because it's a ridiculously fun, over the top movie'. Well, for me it matters. The characters in Hardcore Henry were pretty hollow, you don't care about the villain (who literally has telekinesis, movie doesn't explain how or why), but you do care about the relationship between Henry and Estelle, who are husband and wife. By far, the character that steals the show, is Sharlto Copley as Jimmy. Seriously, Copley does an amazing/ hilarious job with the role he's given.

II. The Action

The action, as seen in the trailer, is over the top, ridiculous, and super fun. There is something weirdly satisfying, about seeing Henry literally kicking the shit out of like 100+ mindless soldiers; and that is all due to the camera work for the first person effect.

III. The Camera Work

Hardcore Henry is the first film in a while that has had the full 96 minute run time be totally filmed in first person mode (if you don't know what that is, it's what everyone experiences every single moment of every single waking day) and it can be a bit much at times, at least for me. I had popcorn when I watched this, and I felt sick throughout it and unfortunately it did detract from the movie a bit.

IV. The Story

The story in Hardcore Henry is extremely simplistic, but since the film is essentially a video game, I'll describe the plot as every single Mario game that has come out. Princess gets kidnapped by bad guy, hero goes through a million bad guys to save princess. The story was lacking in some area's though, there are a couple of character's that could have been taken out of the film entirely, the plot would be no different.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So in closing, if you enjoy the Call of Duty's and first person shooters, I would go and see Hardcore Henry. I was hoping for a better story than the one we got, but the action was ridiculously amazing, and Sharlto Copley was amazing in the movie

Rouge One: A Star Wars Story Teaser Trailer Review

Not the official poster, just looks cool
*screams like a Star Wars fan*

So yesterday, I was just scrolling through my Facebook timeline and I saw that the teaser trailer for Rouge One, would be dropping on Good Morning America this morning.

Now, I knew that I wouldn't be getting up for it, so thank God for YouTube!

*Also, this will be different from my actual reviews, considering it's just a trailer, I can't do any analysis. Just clearing that up*

Alright, so we are introduced to who is probably the main protagonist/antihero of the film, Jyn Erso.

And from the trailer, she is a criminal, essentially, but she changes her life to fight for the Rebellion.

Jyn kicking Imperial ass!!

Now, this is my opinion, but as soon as the words "this December" pop up on screen, and the siren starts blaring. The trailer changes tones. It all of the sudden becomes a war drama. and I say that because it feels a lot like Saving Private Ryan minus the gore and blood, of course.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now this is what intrigues me

Darth Vader?
The reason I say "Darth Vader?" is because Hayden Christensen is rumored to reprise his role as a younger Darth Vader, but how could Vader be cloaked, considering he's in his respiratory suit at the end of Episode III? Maybe Disney is taking the Kylo Ren approach. I don't know.

Samurai Jedi Badass
Why no lightsaber?
Forrest Whitaker's character
Rebels/Empire storming beach (really gives the Private Ryan feel doesn't it?)
This shot in particular is where I get the war drama feel

I also feel that this trailer is going to be a character film for Jyn, considering she is the main character more or less.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, I loved this trailer. It gave me the vibe I wanted and heard that the movie will be and I'm excited that Star Wars is back into the full swing!!

The Witch Movie Review

Title: The Witch

Rated R (disturbing violent content, graphic nudity)

Starring: Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie

Director: Robert Eggers

IMDb Synopsis: A family in 1630's New England is torn apart, by the forces of witchcraft, black magic and possession.

My rating: 7/10

Wow, that was unexpected

I. The Characters

The whole film revolves around a family of six who live out in the wilderness. The ensemble consists of Tomasin, William, Caleb, Mercy, and Jonas, with Tomasin being the central character. The acting is amazing for a horror film, specifically the actors that play Tomasin and William, respectively. There is one scene where the character of Caleb, says a few lines and it's really effective.

II. The Story

After the film ends, it is shown on screen that this film was inspired by writing in journals, of which actual dialogue is apparently from those journals.

III. The Scares

There really aren't a lot of scares in The Witch. There are scares, of course, but the film is driven by the performances, which are awesome.

If you are a fan of the horror genre, I think you'll love this movie. Me personally, I didn't LOVE this movie, but I did enjoy it a lot, it's a lot better than Annabelle, but not better than The Conjuring in my opinion.

Deadpool Movie Review

Title: Deadpool

Rated R (strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity)

Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein

Director: Tim Miller

IMDb synopsis: A former Special Forces Operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rouge experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopting the alter ego Deadpool.

My rating: 10/10

I'm totally seeing this again, probably on Valentines Day.

So Deadpool is amazingly disturbing, but its also amazingly awesome!!

I. The Story

The story was pretty generic to be honest. Some people hate that, some people loved it. I actually thought Deadpool benefited from the generic story, I do think though that the sequel (witch will be with Cable, another Xmen) will go for another route story wise at least.

II. The Characters

The characters were extremely well done. Reynolds does amazing as Deadpool. Ed Skrein was awesome as the villain Ajax. I bought the relationship of Deadpool and Morena Baccarin's character. I also loved the characters of Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus.

III. The Action

For being Tim Miller's directorial debut, the action is very well filmed, absolutely no shaky cam. Also, this is one of the most gory superhero film I've seen, don't take the kids to this one.

IV. The Comedy

If you know the character of Deadpool, you know the type of humor that is expected in this. The comedy is amazingly hilarious; Reynolds delivery is spot on as well as the rest of the cast.

V. The Negatives

To be honest, there's barely any negatives, I loved this movie. The only negative I have, is that during the flashback scene's, it seems to rush along a little bit. This movie is 1hr and 48 minutes and is a very fast paced movie, just sometimes its a little too fast.

So, in conclusion, GO SEE DEADPOOL

ALSO if you're into entertainment and music, my cousin just started his own blog. He covers all the major pop culture events and music, with his own music charts. go to http://jcc3ntral.blogspot.com/ for more info.

Also, I want to do more terrible rant type posts, so if I can, I will do a review for Tommy Wiseau's The Room.

Room Movie Review

Title: Room

Rated R: (language)

Starring: Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay

Director: Lenny Abrahamson

IMDb Synopsis: After five-year-old Jack and his mother escape from the enclosed surroundings that Jack has known his entire life, the boy makes a thrilling discovery.

My Rating: 9/10

The feels man, the feels

The room is a film that I had no idea what it was about, I was originally going to just Spotlight, but I saw this at the theatre, I decided to see it. I'm glad I did.

Room is expertly filmed, wonderfully acted, and really well written.

Brie Larson deserves all the praise she's getting. She's wonderful as a 24-year-old mother raising a child.

Also, Jacob Tremblay, best child actor in at least the last 10 years. He's wonderful and he should be getting more attention.

This film actually made me cry around 3 times. And it's all because of Abrahamson's excellent vision. Donoghue's (the writer of the novel this film is based on and the writer of the film) wonderful script. And the wonderful chemistry between Larson, Tremblay, and the rest of the cast.

I loved this movie and Larson better win for Best Supporting Actress in a Lead Role.

The Revenant Movie Review

Rated: R (strong frontier combat, violence including gory images, a sexual assault, language, and brief nudity)

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy

Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu

IMDb Brief Synopsis: A frontiersman named Hugh Glass on a fur trading expedition in the 1820's is on a quest for survival after being brutally mauled by a bear.

My Rating: 9/10

holy crap so The Revenant is awesome!

a film that is filmed in (nearly) all on location, using natural light (aka just the sun) The Revenant is one of the best looking movies I have ever seen in my life. I love how the camera lens fogs up when the camera is close to DiCaprio, or the bear in the scene from the trailer. If this movie doesn't win for best cinematography at the 2016 Oscars.

Speaking of the 2016 Oscars, do you know who should win for Best Actor in a Lead Role? Leonardo Nooscaro!! DiCaprio gives his best performance since The Wolf of Wall Street, which he should have won for that (okay and most every role he's taken). He barley speaks any English, with most of his speech being in French, or Native American. He grunts his way to exact revenge on Tom Hardy's character. Every actor does an amazing job.

The only negative I have is that The Revenant draws out Glass' quest for survival for a little too long, other than that, I loved this movie! It's better than Birdman, even though it's an awesome movie.

Good god Oscar Academy, GIVE LEO DiCAPRIO A FLIPPING OSCAR!

Also, a fair warning, this film is very gory, so if you're sensitive to gore, I would probably avoid this one.

American Heist Movie Review

ugggggh.. this movie was 94 minutes long and it felt like 2.5 hours.

Alright so American Heist stars Adrien Brody and Hayden Christiensen, and it's a heist film, I guess.

This premise is that Hayden Christensen and Adrien Brody are brothers who 10 years ago committed some crime (the script never tells us what) and Adrien Brody spends 10 years in jail, while Hayden Christensen fixes his life.

and i. hated. this. movie

When this American Heist started, I knew that Hayden Christensen was in it and I thought that with a better director and a good script (so a good movie) he could turn into a good actor. i was wrong.

EVERYBODY was terrible! Even Oscar winning Adrien Brody! I was shocked at how cartoony he was!

The script is so bad, that when Christensen told Brody something in relation to their past relationship, BRODY STARTS CRYING AND BLAMING CHRISTENSEN FOR SOMETHING THAT IS SO IRRELEVENT TO THE STORY

So, at the beginning, I said that this film is supposed to be heist film. THE HEIST TAKES PLACE IN THE LAST HALF HOUR OF THE MOVIE

Also, there is a romance subplot, which of course never reaches full circle, so its completely stupid just like the rest of this movie

ya im done, I saw this movie on Netflix, so I beg of you, don't watch this, just rate it one star.
