My rating: 7/10
Wow, that was unexpected
I. The Characters
The whole film revolves around a family of six who live out in the wilderness. The ensemble consists of Tomasin, William, Caleb, Mercy, and Jonas, with Tomasin being the central character. The acting is amazing for a horror film, specifically the actors that play Tomasin and William, respectively. There is one scene where the character of Caleb, says a few lines and it's really effective.
II. The Story
After the film ends, it is shown on screen that this film was inspired by writing in journals, of which actual dialogue is apparently from those journals.
III. The Scares
There really aren't a lot of scares in The Witch. There are scares, of course, but the film is driven by the performances, which are awesome.
If you are a fan of the horror genre, I think you'll love this movie. Me personally, I didn't LOVE this movie, but I did enjoy it a lot, it's a lot better than Annabelle, but not better than The Conjuring in my opinion.
